Gold wins 2-1 in a mostly pitching battle.

Good offensive work from:
Philip Clarke -- 2 hits
he also walked so he was on base all 3 at bats

Walker Grisanti's triple into the right field corner for Black

I thought Jayson Gonzalez hit the ball well

Alex Brewer had 2 hits and drove in the winning run for Gold. Best swings of the day from my view.

Gold scored the winning run in the final inning after 2 were out with no one on base.

On the negative side offensively:
Harrison Ray struck out all 3 at bats

7 of the 17 total strike outs were looking -- not good at all
17 strike outs was way too many (only 35 total outs so that's almost 50%)

Pitching was mostly stellar, particularly Jackson Gillis and Zach King. Gillis was throwing a lot of strikes (8 K's in 4 2/3 innings) but ran out of gas in the 5th and was left in too long as he should have been pulled after the 2nd wild pitch if not the first. King wasn't as sharp in the sense of throwing strikes but was still very effective. Either, or both, of these guys could be a starter this year.

Freshman David Bates took the loss and walked 3 of the 8 batters he faced, 1 of which was the winning run.
