Belmont beats UCLA

Neither is ranked. UCLA has already been blown out by UNC and Mich State. Belmont lost by 8 or so to Green Bay, a team in IUPUI’s league (Horizon) that has already lost to Ind State, Iowa, Bowling Green and Oregon.

This isn’t that big a deal. But it’s important for them that they won.

It's a HUGE deal. Watched the whole game. Belmont was so tough and gritty against a bunch of future NBA guys on their home court, including some major size in the middle. Belmont plays stellar basketball. Also watched Lipscomb almost take down Louisville last week. They also play a great brand of hoops. So tough. Both teams play so hard and fearlessly. It's exciting for the city of Nashville.

Agreed it's a BIG deal and a huge shot in the arm for Belmont to beat one of the blue bloods. I went to Vandy but worked at BU for over a decade. They also beat a top 15 UNC team about 5 years ago.

This is awesome. Losses like this couldn’t happen to a more charming guy than Alford ;).

We are starting to see more and more scores like this in nonfoncerence games and they will continue as long as the one and done rule remains. Kids playing in a system for 3-4 years against kids playing in their first 10ish college games with eyes on only being in school for about 9 months. Further, for kids at Belmont games against high majors are their Super Bowl whereas schools like UCLA look it like it is preseason. Next thing you know, they get a season changing loss.

Nail on the head.

Good win for Belmont but let's not confuse the current unranked UCLA with the Lew Alcindor or Bill Walton era UCLA.

That would be like confusing the current mtsu C-USA with the old one that had Cincinnati, Florida State, Houston, Louisville, TCU, etc.

Still can't believe we had a chance to hire Byrd as our women's coach at one time long ago and failed to do so. I can only imagine what he would have done with that program if he had stayed here as long as he has at Belmont. One of the best coaches in the country IMO.
