As a long, long time ticket holder, I am so tired of this stuff. Usually, when we lose like this, I don't have much trouble moving on and looking forward to next week. But I am having trouble getting over this one. And it got me to thinking. It seems like every season over the years, the is one game and only one, where Vandy treats its fans to a really great and exciting win. It is a game against a "name" opponent where we are a pretty big underdog or a game where we win in an exceptionally exciting way. A couple seasons ago, we got a bonus with two such wins against Kentucky and Florida in an otherwise dismal season. But we made up for that last year with none. Maybe someone with a good memory can look back over the last 10-20 seasons or so and see if this theory is at all valid. This season we of course had Virginia Tech. I'm still hoping maybe we'll have another, but after Saturday, it's hard to see where that "special" win will be possible and it may well be I will have to be satisfied with just one special game for this season.

It’s that you have to run out the clock before you score late, especially if your defense sucks. Clark needs to spend some time this week with an Xbox controller in his hands learning some game management.

All the gains made from the first two games were wiped away last night. The fan base will be just as weak. Recruiting will lose what we built after the first two games. Premium seating sales will take a huge hit. This is on Clark for not getting them prepared. Good coaches would have ripped their players all week if they weren’t right. We had no business losing to a Sun Belt team. We had no business playing on the road to a Sun Belt team. Bowl game chances went out the window. Pathetic. Diermeier should can Candice and Clark.

Same as last year if we face an avg quarterback we are in trouble. The defense is ok against the run but any passing attack will rip us apart. VA Tech QB much like Anthony Richardson would have rather run than pass which gave us a chance. I'm afraid we are going to get blown out in several upcoming games

If I’m a player and he starts spouting that we learn from this and move on, I call bullshit. This loss is on him and his defensive play calling. He needs to move on! He hasn’t learned anything!

I can’t help but think all of our momentum is about to be squashed by the scheduling of this game. It makes no sense that it ever got put on the books and makes even less sense that our current Athletics Director didn’t buy our way out of the game in favor of a more winnable one. This isn’t supposed to be yet another Candice hit piece but I can’t help but think she’s complicit here.

If I’m off base about the above, please feel free to explain how I am because I want to believe we can just blame this on Malcom Turner and pretend like CSL had nothing to do with this decision and the decision to keep the game on the schedule.

Enough about that, but I’m worried about this game in the rain, on the road, and against a capable opponent.

I can’t imagine this would have cost us more than 1-2 million to buy this game out and or bring the game to Nashville. Because she was so arrogant not to have done so, she has destroyed this college football season for the Commodores.

Through 2 games, I believe we got to see the problem with selling out all of our season tickets on the cheap to opposing fans.

For Va Tech: The Bama, UT and UTjr fans sold all of their tickets online and Hokie fans gobbled them all up. It appeared as though they bought 20,000 or so on the secondary market, we had 8k or so and 2k or so went unused.

For Alcorn: We had a great crowd. Tickets were either super cheap or free, VU did a great job of making sure parents had tickets for parents weekend and gave out tickets to former VU athletes. That was the most Black and Gold I’ve seen in that stadium since the Wake Forest game in Franklin’s last year.

Bama, you’re next: Is there anything that can be done by VU to make sure it isn’t 10-1 Bama to Vandy fans? Only VU knows how many season tickets they normally sell (aka how many VU fans bought tickets) vs how many they sold vs how many seats remain.

Ball State: This one will be interesting because it comes after 3 straight SEC grinders (at Mizzou, Bama and at UK). If we win 1 of those 3, the Ball St game will be packed. If not, probably only the die hards again.

Texas: Same as above

Carl’s Jr: This is a home game against an SEC foe where we need to outnumber our opponent.

UTjr: I guess my fear is that we have a solid team and still can’t get 5k Vandy fans to this game.

Overall, what can Vandy do to make sure we have enough supply for the demand for tickets from VU fans? I do think reaching out to former VU athletes is smart. There are a lot of them and they are Vandy fans. Make those tickets non transferable and give them 2 if we have them.

Will Vandy do something like that for Bama, Texas and UTjr or will they (have they already) just chase more money from opposing fans?

Any ideas or thoughts?

PS: Obviously, winning is the key and I think it’s mostly too late to do anything to help this season but… We only have Pavia for 1 year which is why I wanted to brainstorm to see if there is anything that can be done to give the team a few more fans for the 3 other big games?!?

Most of us have been here for a long time. This team feels better prepared, disciplined, in better shape, and better coached. I think we roll G St and we will see what we really have when we go up against Mizzou. If we beat Mizzou then we are in for a ride this season. The Jerry Kill magic. Keep that man around as long as we can.

After being DQed because of the hit in the second half, does he have to sit out the first half of next week's game?

US News rankings are coming out in a week. I don’t see Vandy moving up much. My firm is hired by universities to model our rankings so they know where they are over or under resourced and we’ve done the upcoming USNWR rankings thousands of times with slight changes (methodological and metric values). 17 or 18 I’m over 90% we will land.

But in more news, CDD is commissioning a study and other universities to create their own rankings. I probably won’t comment on this yet other than my understanding they are asking other schools to pay to be a part of the creation of a new system and I think that’s a really bad move.
