Does VU have a WBB team?

First, i have to apologize. I HATE to be like this. And I understand i use a completely different frame of reference compared to the rest of the 25 or so remaining VU WBB fans. While 77 to 73 in the NET ratings is improving, St. J's is 159, so-

Everyone except me compares Ralph's tenure to White's, which is their right. In that comparison no one could help but look better. (Even tho there were the exact same number of Ws in their first seasons. 14 didn't get White's team into postseason, did get Ralph's in.)

I know i'm the only one old-or stupid- enough to compare each season's team to '92-'93, during which the Commodores spent 1/3 of the season at #1. Much of the rest at #2. Maybe that is completely unfair. And I would NEVER expect a #1 ranking every season. But i don't think spending more weeks in than out of the top 15 is unreasonable. As opposed to not sniffing the top 25 (or 50).

Maybe the most telling fact is that this site didn't even had a thread on the game.

Let the attacks and permanent ban commence.

Wesley Schelling

Playing hard and being present as the long snapper in the end zone scramble following the UF fumble says a lot about Wesley Schelling and the spirit of this VU football team. He may have taken the ball away from a teammate as was said by Stinch on the broadcast. If so, it doesn’t change the credit he should get for hustling down the field.

It was great to see far more VU players than UF players around the loose football.

Tennessee as a matchup

The more I look at it the worse the matchup looks.

Tennessee is 2nd in conference play in rushing defense in YPC just behind Georgia.

2nd to last in pass defense during conference play, just ahead of Vandy in YPG.

Wish we could have Swann for this one.

Joe Milton with lots of deficiencies but a knack for the deep ball which we've given up on big plays recently.

Regardless of What Happens This Week…

This season is a runaway success. We had no business winning an SEC game with the situation on our offensive and defensive lines coming into the season.

The development of the OL this year is one of the most impressive coaching jobs I can remember as a VU fan. That group had no business being that good this year. A huge credit to those guys and the OL coach. That’s a unit we all should be excited for the future of.

DL wise I thought our chances of winning an SEC game went out the door with Capers and Davis injuries they have held their own coming off the GA,Bama, OM games.

I’m not writing off this week with the way we are playing and UTs performance last night. That said 5 wins with 2 league wins is a huge success. Tons of recruiting momentum and a very very manageable schedule in 23.

Stoops extension

Turns out Stoops got himself a 9 million dollar per year extension the day before he lost to Vanderbilt. I would have never expected Kentucky to pay top 6 football coach salary.

I don’t know if it’s Lea’s job, but notice one of the duties in the Stoops contract is actions to increase student and fan interest.

For those who still believe Lea is the guy…

This question was posed to @wayne4vu, but oddly enough, he never answered. I think it was @VUMatt23 ir maybe @Dore5674 who asked him, but what would you need to see between now and the end of year 3 (because we all know he’s getting at minimum a 3rd year) for you to come to the conclusion that Lea isn’t the guy.

I’m not sure if @NashNative615 thinks Lea is the guy or if he thinks we just have really bad personnel. (Both can be true, too, btw.)

It was NEVER *Just* About the Talent

For two weeks, we have played a little smashmouth football, bowed up on defense when we had to, and ran the ball even when our opponent knew we were going to. Didn't have to rely on trick plays, fake punts, or Caleb Scott acting like he was on the sidelines. Just lined up and played two middle-of-the-pack SEC opponents straight up and won.

Any numbnuts could have even done a casual look at the roster and see that we had enough talent to be more competitive than what we were being. Despite showing that most of our roster had P5 offers from other schools, despite showing that we have recruiting class averages inside the top 50 and better than several other schools that were pulling upsets and competing, some posters continued to say idiotic things like, "Vince Lombardi/Nick Saban couldnt coach this roster to an SEC win" or "We have FCS level talent" even though there is ample evidence to the exact opposite.

Kudos to the coaching staff for continuing to evolve, create, and execute more effective game plans, get rid of some of the stuff that wasn't working, and staying the course.

Kudos to the players who (hopefully) don't read the morons on this board who know little to nothing about football, and continue to work and get better and not give up.

And Kudos to the small minority of fans that can call balls and strikes and don't try to reshape every outcome to fit their narrative. I think there about 10 of us that have the capacity to praise when warranted and constructively criticize when needed and don't have to check the coaches' names before we do so. I would like to call these people the Anchor Collective but it is my understanding that name has already been taken.

Now let's go beat the vols so we can reshoot/update one of my favorite videos of all time...

Play calling yesterday

If you can erase roughly the last six minutes of the game - basically everything from the interception on the pass Mike should have never thrown to Shep to the end of the game - play calling was superb. The best of the season. They maximized every pass Mike made, got a jet sweep in, had a scheme to get tough running yds, and utilized the TEs in a way I think we do better than anyone else.

We also didn't rely on Mike's legs like we did the week before. It had clear wrinkles from the week before. Mike was very contained. I loved how he hit Skinner for that key pass late in the game instead of going to Shep. It was also Smith's best running of the season. I just thought it was all a great combo of creative and tough.
