Basketball Does Jerry Stackhouse want to be at Vanderbilt?

The case for Stack staying has been laid out and I think the case for Stack being fired has been laid out but what I’d love to know is, does he even want to be here?

@Chris Lee brought to light some very disturbing news yesterday regarding Stack when he mentioned that as of very recently, Stack hasn’t even met a local High School coach that’s not only pumping out D1 players, has one of Jerry’s signees headed to Vanderbilt (Isiah West). This news is beyond troubling to me because it implies that Stack either thinks he’s better than everyone else and they aren’t worthy of his time (problematic) or that he doesn’t see himself here for long, so why should he be forging relationships with coaches he won’t be dealing with in short order anyway (problematic)….

Do we have any evidence at all that Stackhouse does want to be at Vanderbilt?

If not, Candice needs to do her job and cut bait. If so, Stack has to finish strong down the stretch.

Dore Report interview with Gavin Schoenwald

Definitely recommend listening to this. Talks about the culture shift and lots more.

FB Recruiting McCallie (Tenn.) 2024 QB Jeremy St-Hilaire details Vanderbilt offer

McCallie (Tenn.) 2024 quarterback Jeremy St-Hilaire, a rising in-state talent, picked up his first D1 offer from Vanderbilt last month, revealing the opportunity from the Commodores over social media on Dec. 1.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound gunslinger out of Chattanooga, TN. spoke with VandySportsDotCom about how it felt to pick up his first offer from the Commodores and detailed his overall interest in the program.

"It feels great. It was my childhood dream to receive an offer," St-Hilaire said. "Vanderbilt is a really good place, SEC football and is a great academic school. Best of both worlds, so I'd say that I'm interested."

St-Hilaire said the Commodores have been involved in his recruitment since this past November as he's connected with Vanderbilt offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Joey Lynch and likes how he cares about family and treats his players like family.

"Since late November, and since then, we've been talking every week," St-Hilaire said. "I talk a lot with Coach Lynch. The thing that stood out the most was that he's big about family and he treats the players like family. That creates a culture that a lot of players like. You need that if you want to feel at home."

St-Hilaire said he's eager to learn more about Vanderbilt and is planning to visit on Jan. 28. He added that he's excited to visit campus and meet more of the Commodores' coaching staff. St-Hilaire said he could learn from any player on Vanderbilt's roster, but revealed he's especially intrigued by quarterback AJ Swann.

"I'm going on the 28th," St-Hilaire said. "I can't wait to visit the campus and talk to more of the coaches. I could learn from any player, but for sure AJ Swann as he is the quarterback."

MBB: Don't look now, but we might not be playing Wednesday night of the SEC Tournament.

Currently six teams below us in the conference standings after one-third of conference play (including Georgia who we now have the tie-breaker over). Still early, but not as "way to early" as some predictions of next year's college football Top 25. Tie breakers may play a key role as the season winds down. Gotta beat the teams below us. And a few others above us in the standings for good measure.

FB Recruiting Statesboro (Ga.) 2024 DE Amontrae Bradford details Vanderbilt offer

Statesboro (Ga.) 2024 strongside defensive end Amontrae Bradford picked up his first SEC offer from Vanderbilt this past Friday, announcing the opportunity from the Commodores over social media.

The 6-foot-5, 222-pound recruiting target out of the Peach State talked with VandySportsDotCom about how it felt to receive his first SEC opportunity from the Commodores, revealing his overall interest in the program.

Bradford said it feels great to pick up an offer from Vanderbilt, adding that the Commodores have been involved in his recruitment since this past September. Bradford said he's interested in stopping by West End for a visit this upcoming March.

"Feels amazing," Bradford said. "And ever since September 2, I've been on Vandy's radar... I plan on coming up to West End around March."

Bradford said that he's connected with Vanderbilt assistant coach and defensive line coach Larry Black and assistant coach and defensive backs coach Dan Jackson over the course of his recruitment with the Commodores. Bradford said he talked with Coach Jackson about what it would be like to play for the Commodores while conversing with Coach Black about his overall impact on the team.

"I connected with Coach Black and Coach Jackson," Bradford said. "With Coach Jackson, I liked talking about what it would be like to play at Vanderbilt. With Coach Black, we talked about the impact I would make on the team and how much I would mean to the team."

Here’s the Wikipedia article on PER, which explains it far better than I can. I generally think the scale is a little lower for college than NBA. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Player_efficiency_rating

Here’s an explanation of Win Share: https://www.basketball-reference.com/about/ws.html

Hoops Recruiting Isaiah West at Mount Juliet Christian

Here to see Vanderbilt signee Isaiah West play tonight at MJCA. Plan is to talk with West and his head coach for a story after the game. West’s coach said that he is back to form and that his minutes are back to normal after his ACL injury. Will try to throw some analysis in throughout the night but West’s 17-1 team is facing off against a 1-13 team so I’m looking at his health more than anything.

Basketball Stackhouse Gone

I struggle to find scenarios in my head where Jerry Stackhouse stays. If you value basketball the way you should, one would think you would be thinking about whether Stackhouse is the guy in year 4.

There’s a couple glaring issues with the teams we have had. It’s obvious there’s management issues going on within the program. Stackhouse doesn’t have much use for his assistants and I’ve heard rumblings he’s blown up on assistants in the past who have questioned him or offered suggestions. There’s a glaring stubbornness to the program that I don’t love. The guys on the team don’t look like they are having fun which is gives me signs of what’s going on behind the scenes may not be great. There doesn’t seem to be a winning culture.

The biggest issue seems to be that Stackhouse isn’t a great recruiter. We have been able to attract big time talent in the past, but it’s been a minute since we have had an impact freshman or transfer. Robbins came over with Conroy and Chatman was solid. Manjon is decent too, but not enough to replace Scotty. The evaluations he’s had on recruits have not been fantastic and he’s struggled keeping what recruits he has gotten on West End.

It’s easy for fans to write off Stackhouse with the way he has treated the fan base. Blocking fans on Twitter isn’t a fantastic look and attacking fans in their DMs was childish. You can tell he doesn’t have a love for the university as he hasn’t embraced Vanderbilt all the way. I would be surprised if Jerry Stackhouse was loving life right now and would not be surprised if he begins checking for NBA openings. It’s probably apparent to him this isn’t the best fit. He is a good coach but can’t recruit the necessary talent at Vandy. I do believe if he coached at a bigger program you could make a case with the right talent he could coach his team into a being a consistent top 25 team. He just doesn’t seem to be a fit at Vandy.

Knowing what this off-season brings with off-season attrition (losing Robbins, Wright, QMB, and potentially Stute?) and the investment they’re making into basketball gives me the inclination they have to make a move. I don’t see many scenarios where Stackhouse is the coach in 3 years. I’m going to let the rest of the SEC play out, but we should be on edge.

Let’s see how the rest of the SEC plays out but hopefully Candice makes a move after this season and replaces Stackhouse.

FB Recruiting Three visitors today

Vanderbilt had three offensive line targets visit today. As @Sean_Williams mentioned last night, Missouri offensive lineman Ryan Jostes visited today and received an offer from Vanderbilt.

Alabama interior offensive lineman William Sanders visited today and received an offer from Vanderbilt. I'll have more from Sanders in the next couple of days. I think he could play guard or center at the next level.

Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Rosinski visited as well. Vanderbilt had already offered, and I recently wrote an article about him that I'll link below.
