Audio PODCAST: A win at Georgia from a team that statistically, defies explanation

No Liam Robbins, no Lee Dort, no problem for Vanderbilt, which hands Georgia its first home loss this year by shooting the ball well. That brings us to a statement that Jerry Stackhouse made 2 1/2 month ago about this team, which seemed odd at the time but is ringing true now. Also, the numbers don't see to add up, but the Commodores are 43rd in adjusted offensive efficiency at Ken Pomeroy after Saturday's win. Plus, some attendance-related questions (and more) from the mailbag.

Kentucky - Matchup discussion

I’m worried without Robbins and Dort, their offensive and defensive production and their 10 fouls, we will just get systemically destroyed. I’m not sure if Cal will but I and most decent coaches would pound it down low and get our limited front court in foul trouble as quickly as I could.

There is a scenario where Ansong and Stute are playing the 5 with 10 minutes remaining.

Football Is anyone else concerned

…about our backup QB situation? I was a big fan of Seals but it seems as though he will be called on frequently next season and will he be freshman Seals or Sophomore Seals?

Also we play SMU in 2024 and I hope we have an answer to their offense. Recall they scored 56pts (by halftime) against a fellow AAC team this season. Have to go 4-0 non conference every year to have a successful season IMO.

Next Year's Hoops Roster

Started thinking about this earlier. With the way the team is currently playing and how the rest of the SEC looks, I think it is fair to assume 7-8 wins being the most likely landing spot for this team. At this point, I think we all know where everyone stands when it comes to should Stack stay or go, but let's assume he stays for a fourth year. The roster currently breaks down like this:

Departures:
Quentin Millora-Brown
Liam Robbins
Emmanuel Ansong

Arrivals:
Isaiah West (Fr)
JaQualon Roberts (Fr)
Carter Lang (Fr)

Returners:
Tyrin Lawrence (Sr)
Colin Smith (So)
Noah Shelby (So)
Paul Lewis (So)
Myles Stute (Sr)
Trey Thomas (Sr)
Malik Dia (So)
Lee Dort (So)

Question Marks:
Jordan Wright
Ezra Manjon

This is without anyone transferring, which is highly unlikely but also very unpredictable. I think it is likely we see Ezra Manjon back. Jordan Wright is most likely back as well, unless he decides to play his fifth season elsewhere. It would put us at exactly 13 if no one transferred out and Jordan and Ezra came back. I think it is likely we see at least one or two freshman transfer, but who knows. Is this roster enough to get Stack over the hump and into the NCAA Tournament? Without the addition of a transfer portal stud, I have a hard time seeing it. The upper-classmen are good players, but not enough to carry a team. I think this team would produce similar results as to what we are seeing right now, but that is impossible to know for sure. What are your thoughts on this potential roster? What does Stackhouse need to do over the off-season to turn this into a NCAA Tournament roster?

FB Recruiting **2023 prospect to officially visit**

Lipscomb linebacker Bryan Longwell confirmed that he will officially visit Vanderblt this weekend. The 6-foot-2 and 225-pound linebacker told us that is down to Arizona State and Vanderbilt in his recruitment after he received the Vanderbilt offer. He was unsure if he'd be able to visit Vanderbilt, but that is indeed happening. I take that as a good sign for the Commodores that he did not commit to Arizona State shortly after his visit there. Longwell is one to watch.

This was our story on him a week ago after he got the Vanderbilt offer.

MBB: Quad wins (and losses)

There always seems to be at least one team that comes out of no where in February and early March to work it’s way into the NCAA Tournament. Why not Vanderbilt (in fact that may have been Vanderbilt during CBD’s first year, can’t recall).

Anyway, right now we have the following record:

Q1. 1-5
Q2. 2-3
Q 3. 2-0
Q 4. 5-1

In my opinion the most damaging thing to our prospects so far is not the one loss to a Q4 team, but rather only having the one win against a Q1 team. The overall record doesn’t help, but I digress. Who knows, maybe we grab a win or two against Q1 competition as the regular season races to its conclusion. ⚓️👇

Tyrin Lawrence

This guy deserves his own thread. Talk about a player that has worked his tail off and won’t take no for an answer…

Averaging 11.1 and that number has steadily gone up as we’ve needed more from him. Trash free throw shooter early in the year and is now shooting over 71%. That’s not great but it seems he’s probably over 77% for the last 6-8 games (didn’t look but feels like he’s making more now).

He’s clearly working hard on his game. He’s not a lead scorer yet but it appears he wants to be and that’s a big deal.

I am a fan of this kid and his work ethic.
