Regarding bracketology, bubbles, and conference tournaments

I've said for awhile now that wins in conference tournaments hasn't carried much weight in my lifetime of following college hoops, as far as moving onto or off of the bubble. Most of you just say that ole Woody is just being negative again.

Well, today on the Greg Pogue show, Vanderbilt alumn, former N.C.State AD, and former NCAA Tournament selection committee member Lee Fowler was on from 10:30 to 10: 40 or so.

One of the talking heads on Pogues show point blank asked Fowler if a win or two would get Vanderbilt into the dance. Fowler's response was basically " the committee basically has their minds made up on all but a few bids". In his time on the committee, "they put little stock into conference tournament wins."

Again, we had a great run in February, and it was fun. But, it was basically to little to late for us to get to the dance. Barring a miracle run without Robbins to get to Sunday, I think we are NIT bound.

The good news looks to be that maybe Stack has figured out how to run a college program.

Fowler also said that he really likes Stack as a person, and thinks that he has the program heading in the right direction. He also really likes the young players.

UCLA and Houston....and Vanderbilt?

UCLA and Houston are the only teams in the COUNTRY with a better record and winning percentage than our 'Dores since the beginning of February, per the talking heads on the SEC network. This is for you @Friedas_Boss.

During the LSU vs Georgia game, the announcers talked about Vanderbilt deserving an NCAAT bid a lot. The SEC network, Dickie V, and others are really talking us up for an NCAAT bid. Let's keep them talking by beating LSU tonight!!

End of an era at Georgetown?

Hoyas see their season come to an end with an 80 - 48 loss to arch-rival Villanova in the Big East Tournament. Patrick Ewing is now 28 - 81 in conference play with one NIT, one NCAA and no postseason wins added to the resume. He did lead Georgetown to a Big East Tournament title in 2021. The Big East is not what it used to be and recruiting for schools in that conference may be a challenge these days.

Coach Stack and recruiting

I am a little puzzled about those who still question Coach Stackhouse's recruiting. I believe we finished tied with Tennessee, a team that was believed to have the talent to be a Final Four team. We finished one game behind Kentucky, a team filled with four and five stars. And we beat both. So. it seems to me that Coach recruited some pretty good basketball players. I will admit I am what I think of as a "casual" fan. I attend every home game, faithfully watch the road games, but I don't analyze--I don't watch game replays. I watch to cheer for Vandy and enjoy. I really have no idea what next year's incoming class looks like. Hopefully, enough talent to improve our team. But based on the results this season, I'm willing to back Coach Stack. What am I missing?

The real reason we’ve turned it around…

Simply put, Coach Stack and his staff have not only figured out the highest and best use for their top 8-9 players, but they’ve developed their games to the point to where the players that are playing are executing at an extremely high level on the offensive end of the floor. Obviously, that didn’t come easily but it has been a joy to watch unfold.

Filet Manjon - highest and best use
Trey Thomas - highest and best use
Tyrin Lawrence - highest and best use
Myles Stute - finally- highest and best use
Liam - highest and best use
QMB - highest and best use
Jordan Wright - finally - highest and best use
Colin Smith - highest and best use

That’s no exaggeration, this staff has gotten a lot out of this group. Maybe you still don’t see it but at some point, a tip of the cap is in order.

With that said, beat UGA or LSU!

Jaylen Clark is out for the season with an Achilles injury, sources confirmed to ESPN.

I post this because it is a classic example of what does the Selection Committee do now. The Bruins had a shot at a number 1 seed. This Tournament is the very best reality TV show ever.

Clark suffered the injury in Saturday's regular-season men's basketball finale against Arizona, exiting the game with a leg injury and later returning to the bench with crutches and his right foot in a boot.

UCLA coach Mick Cronin said Tuesday that Clark had a lower leg injury and would miss this week's Pac-12 tournament. The school has yet to confirm Clark is out for the season.

Losing Clark would be a massive blow to UCLA's national championship hopes. He's the Bruins' best defender and one of the best defensive players in the country and has greatly improved his all-around game this season. He's averaging 13.0 points and 6.0 rebounds this season after putting up 6.7 points and 3.8 rebounds off the bench a year ago.

Clark was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year on Tuesday, while also earning second-team all-conference honors.

Without Clark, expect UCLA to move senior David Singleton into the starting lineup. He started nine games earlier this season when Amari Bailey was out injured, and he played 31 minutes against Arizona after Clark's departure. Against the Wildcats, Singleton finished with 17 points and made five 3-pointers. He's shooting 43.4% from 3 this season.

UCLA, the regular-season Pac-12 champion, will play the winner of Wednesday's first-round game between Washington and Colorado in Thursday's Pac-12 tournament quarterfinal. The Bruins (27-4 overall, 18-2 in the Pac-12) are in the mix for a 1-seed in the NCAA tournament.

Stadium was first to report Clark would miss the remainder of the season.
