Notes from Vanderbilt’s win over Lipscomb

Vanderbilt beat Lipscomb 102-50.

Both men and women’s basketball scored 102 points today.

Torvik (like KenPom) moved Vanderbilt women up from No. 30 to No. 22 after the win today.

Iyana Moore has recorded double-digit points in eight consecutive games. She finished today’s game with 15 points.

Vanderbilt earned its fourth straight season-opening win under head coach Shea Ralph. She is the only head coach in program history to do so.

Khamil Pierre is the first Commodore with a double-double in a season opener since the 2020-21 season. The last player was Koi Love, who had 19 points and 12 rebounds on an 81-61 win over East Tennessee St.

Leilani Kapinus is probable for Friday’s game.

Justine Pissott is expected to return next week.

There is no timeline on Sacha Washington’s return. Ralph said they should know more “very soon” when Washington gets reevaluated.

Vanderbilt’s 102 is the most under Shea Ralph.

In her collegiate debut, freshman Mikayla Blakes posted 23 points, and she is the first Commodore to score 20-plus points in her debut game under head coach Shea Ralph.

Austin Peay falls to Bethel TN (NAIA) by 12. The Govs will play the Commodores on Friday.

Austin Peay is in the same conference (ASUN) as Lipscomb.

Special Season Or the Future

I’m listening to Joey and Billy’s postgame Saturday night, Billy mentioned that this has been a special season. In the moment, I actually said out loud, “I hope that this isn’t special but is actually the standard moving forward.”
What are the odds that this is how this football program is moving forward?? I know a lot of the season’s success has been dependent on #2 but how much of this can be replicated in years to come? Has the groundwork CCL laid finally matured? Just trying to stay level-headed here.

Thoughts on basketball team

Man on nights where shots are falling these guys are gonna put up some points. And I reckon we better - gonna give up a bunch too I think

Mcglockton - my goodness! But a LOT of any given night stars on this team. I’m impressed that they don’t seem to be selfish and already appear to gel pretty well. And good to see Williams come in late and go to the dirt fighting for a ball.

Also - that is how you find playing time for your walk ons!

Should be fun

Who are you most excited to see tonight? Vandy Hoops!!

I’ll start by saying I’m excited to see Coach Byington. I’m interested in the pace we play, how he subs, and how he communicates with his players (both on and off the court).

As for the players, I probably have to start with Jason Edwards. As a lover of guards, especially scoring guards, I want to see what this guy is capable of.

I want to see how Tyler Tanner looks at this level.

I want to see Jaylen Carey move and shoot.

I want to see Chris Manon, haven’t heard much about him since he’s been on campus. Does that mean he’s not that good?

I certainly want to see Hoggard and Nickel too.

I want to see a win and one in which our players and fans have fun.

Who are you most excited about seeing and why?

Opening Night tradition

Once a multi year/multiple season tic holder, I drug my kids to Memorial when it would have been so much easier to leave them at home. After many years, many surgeries, and many seasons, I will be attending opening night once again with my 30 something children to sit in their season tickets seats. Most games I am in my chair communicating with them via text message. We didn't have cell phones my first year, but Eddie Fogler, Billy Mac, Lawson, Anglin, Elder, Ronnie Mc, led us to a SEC Championship & Sweet 16! I was HOOKED.
Hope to see a bunch of you there.
Anchor Down for Coach By as we build this thing back up.

How do we get the offense going

Would love to hear people’s thoughts on this. I don’t think the problem is Pavia at all. Auburn is a very good defense. But it is honestly miraculous he completed as many passes as he did. We’ve got to get him some easy throws. Sed on the other hand is not at all himself. Obviously they trust him the most. Time for some other guys to step up. I think we have to complete a couple deep balls. Safeties are too tight. We have to run legit play action. I would like to see us hand off on the jet sweep. If Sherrill is not the guy we need someone else. Johnson? We need to throw the ball in the flat to backs.

Any chance we see Cardenas, Brycen Coleman?
