The decision to punt was just flat out stupid

The worst thing that can happen there is you don't get it. You still have all your time outs, and the only way Florida can beat you is to make a first down.

Which is precisely what they would have to do if you punt!

Not only do you get no advantage out of punting, because you are chasing the clock not the scoreboard, you are guaranteeing half the remaining clock will expire.

If you punt, and stop them, they are sending you back to your own twenty with a backup who you know is not going to drive you the distance of the field to tie the game with under two minutes left.

Stupid stupid football. Barring an absurdly unlikely Florida turnover, that decision costed you at least one offensive down, but also half the play clock.

And by this point you know Shurmur is not going to play. So what odds do you like more there, fourth and seven with a shot at a short field with a back up under center, or first and ten from your own twenty, with maybe two minutes at the most left on the clock, and a QB who has not taken a meaningful snap in over a year?

Smh.
