Credit to Auburn, they played better than they did
Thanked the seniors for what they did.
Wished they could have sent them out the way they deserved
Six three-and-outs on on offense, some of that involved drops
215 yards of offense on four plays (presumably that’s Auburn)
You can’t be a good team until you’re a consistent team
Saw guys stepping up but they didn’t have a chance to get within one score late
On the big plays they gave up/mental mistakes
They’re not all mental mistakes, he saw physical mistakes
On the second run, most times you don’t have to play a perfect game to down the ball
Sometimes a team can move you out of the gap and get into your second and third level and they missed some opportunities there
That’s them needing to play better/play better in their structure
The first run he needs to look at again but there are 7 people to block there. When there’s a breakout you have to layer the defense to down the ball and they didn’t have it and didn’t track it down
The long pass was more of a mental mistake, a young player got out-leveraged chasing inside and got beat
In the grand scheme of things that makes all the difference
It’s more about three phases of the game than just the defense
The third and 20, why the run there?
You have to make good decisions with the ball
It was a conservative call meant to play for the next possession
Did they call the game too conservatively or was it just easier to get yards later?
Some of both
Will have to look at third downs
They did have two big drops earlier
They have to get the first first down in drives
When you don’t do that it looks conservative but it feels like it’s not in rhythm
There’s frustration in terms of the inability to get the first first down and get the drive started
The way they moved the ball late, Ken made good decisions up until the pick
They’ll look back at the first half and find ways to play better
Langston Patterson
Young player emerging as a dynamic player
Loved the way he played the second drive, it helped reverse some momentum
He’s a good football player
What was the thinking on two QBs?
They think they have something in Walter that can be a difference
Will help them now and in the future
It’s a way to open the run game and make them defend all 11 positions
They didn’t use him as much, thought Ken played well
They have a chance on a throw they missed high
There’s more out there for Walt but tonight was Ken’s night
They wanted to get Walt some time and build that into the plan
That was a matter of what they felt opened the offense up the best
They couldn’t get that going tonight.
Ken gave them what they needed to get the ball in play and moving
Third down difficulties on offense
Tonight their average yards to gain were too long, they were close to 10 yards
That’s going to put yourself in a position where you open up positions and coverages and that creates challenges
They had some drops in there too
Some opportunities to make routine plays they didn’t make
It’s a combination of those things
They’ll have to improve and get better
CJ Taylor is there a disciplinary situation
He just wasn’t able to play tonight
He’s got to get himself healthy
Shep being pulled from punt duty
It wasn’t his night, they had to make a change to get possession
Jayden McGowan was able to create an explosive play
Mishandling punts: Mistakes are amplified when you’re backed up that way
McGowan gave them a spark on KORs too
Local recruits playing well
They feel good about that
To see them have success is a silver lining
Young, talented guys are stepping into a good performance
It’s encouraging to see them have success
AJ Newberry
He’s got the ability to break it
AJ had the 29-yarder and you could see him hit the accelerator on that one
This is his second game playing, he’s saved his redshirt year
Exciting to see what he can do
