OPENING STATEMENT
Coming of a tough road trip
Liked the way they started and fought back
But too many mistakes and it’s a common refrain
“Until we learn to protect the football, we’re leaving it to chance.”
They have the talent
They have young players coming along
But it’s about winning and they have to play better.”
UNLV capitalized on mistakes
They don’t want to spend time forecasting, they’re 2-2 and all their goals are still on the table
A year ago they were 3-1 and played poorly in 5 straight league games
Their performance is the focus this weekend

INJURIES
They are banged up and that’s part of the challenge
Christian James had a setback after Wake, not available this week, maybe next week
Savion Riley questionable (upper body)
De’Rickey Wright questionable, he’s been a warrior, his injury will persist until they can rest him
Gunnar Hansen probable
Grayson Morgan questionable, couldn’t practice today, it’s a minor back issue but a nagging one
CJ Taylor probable, practiced today
Junior Uzebu doubtful
Jaylen Mahoney questionable, didn’t practice today
Prince Kollie practicing again, hinted he’ll redshirt but maybe play four games
Stephen Sannienola probably won’t play this year though he might, they’ll redshirt him
Errington Truesdell, back injury that hasn’t been responsive, hasn’t been practicing

KENTUCKY
Tons of respect for what Stoops has done
When he took this job he looked at what Stoops had done
They’re a great model
They’ve supplemented their roster in the portal
They’ll focus on Kentucky and playing their best

RAY DAVIS
He’s a good player, was good here
Good vision, good feet, knack for finding the space
Good receiver
He sees he’s being used as a check-down offense but also a designed pass-catcher
Good scheme, good players, they’ve done a nice job of solidifying the OL
They got a RB and QB out of the portal
They can turn out hard yards
They’ve got to play to structure, leverage the ball and tackling
How do they cap explosives?

DID IT SURPRISE HIM WHEN DAVIS HIT THE PORTAL?
Can’t be surprised by anything any more
Happy for him that he found a home and has success
But they can’t be bothered by this

DID RAY TELL HIM WHY HE WAS LEAVING?
They sat down and talked
There’s always layers to things he doesn’t want to talk about now
NFL future came up as did playing last year elsewhere
He supports his decision, his job isn’t to control others

WERE THEY LOOKING TO PORTAL AT RB OR STICK WITH WHAT THEY HAVE?
They stick with what they have, developmental is their philosophy
They’ve never insinuated they’ll skip steps
They don’t want a shortcut to results and build a foundation and that’s hard
A big part of his job is to hold a vision for the program
Wishes the world could see it
People want to see results now
The portal in and of itself is a behemoth, it’s a whole subculture of college football
They want to grow and develop what they have
They’ll always look to supplement through the portal but by definition that’s transactional
That’s not sustainable here, they need to be strategic to support the roster they have

DOES IT HURT WHEN SOMEONE GOES TO A CONFERENCE RIVAL
At some point you have to make room for others when it’s a sixth-year choice
They’re collaborative decisions and they don’t flinch
Anyone who’s graduated he wants him to have success and will support how he can
He stays in touch with those guys
