LEA OPENING
Disappointed in the result and how they played
There’s a better result out there for this team
Three turnovers leading to 21 points plus seven penalties isn’t a winning formula
They have to protect the ball, own their operation play cleaner football
They won’t win games when they turn it over
Thought the team showed fight
Defense stepped into a strong performance into the middle of the game
They won the middle eight
The challenge becomes being sober and clear-eyed with what they don’t like
The room needs confidence, they need to play with it particularly on offense and they talked about that after the game
That’s how they’ll approach this week

WHAT HAPPENED TO SWANN AT THE END?
It’s the elbow contusion from last week
He battled it last week
Wednesday he took a step back with it but Thursday he was better
Didn’t feel like AJ played with confidence
Proud of how Ken moved the offense
They have to monitor his health going forward
They need better play from that position/better choices with the ball
When you’re late and throw it up that’s not going well for them
When they get it out on time and force things it doesn’t go well
Learning how to take sacks and throw the ball away are valuable lessons
Every exposure he had helps

DID THE INJURY IMPACT HIS PERFORMANCE?
Certainly he was sore
Until he sees film he doesn’t want to speculate
AJ is a talented player learning through hard lessons
Trust and faith he will continue to progress
There are flashes of good play
They’ll monitor his health

AJ’S TIME IN THE POCKET/PLAY CALLS
You can design screens that help
The sooner you get the ball out the less you lean on protection
There was always an outlet
They’ll look at how they execute and make decisions within the play

WILL THEY CONSIDER SOMEONE DIFFERENT FOR MISSOURI
Dependent on AJ’s health
The ability to practice is something to consider
They’ll put the guy who puts them in the best spot to win

LOTS OF TURNOVERS RETURNED FOR SCORES, IS THAT ON THE OFFENSE
No, there’s nothing they’ll be correcting on that
When the ball is out late receivers are downfield
QB was blocked and couldn’t get the ball out on the first
There was a lateral on the second that helped
The UNLV play came on a reverse so that wasn’t a pick
Defense is running one way and they’re running the other
Some of the coverage is unfortunate circumstance

OLINE
Sometimes it’s losing one on one
Sometimes it’s a breakdown in protection
He’ll have to look at the film because sometimes as the down extends they have to look at where the ball is delivered on time
If it’s not on time the down breaks down
He did see early free runners
Thought the line got better as the game went on but they’ve got to be better

PENALTIES
Last week they had 3 so that wasn’t an issue then; it was ball security last week
Today it’s the same story
The ones he doesn’t like are operational: two false starts two personal fouls
The targeting on Mahoney, he’s got to keep his face up there and that’s an in-the-moment penalty
Operational penalties are inexcusable
Hold is fundamental/technical
Face mask in the end zone, he didn’t see that one when he watched the video board and he feels like Capers didn’t bring him down with the face mask
Discipline penalties are not “Vanderbilt football”

24 UNANSWERED, WHAT LED TO SLOW START?
Playing from heels on offense
Then defensive targeting
They scored on a breakout run
They’re playing 2 safeties not in the rotation early but both stepped up today
They gave space to ball carrier, that’s correctable
There was a four-possession sequence into the half where they got stops, they got their cleats back and play with confidence

DEFENSIVELY THEY DIDN”T GIVE UP A TON OF YARDS… HOW DOES HE EVALUATE
The defense played well enough
Played with fight and spirit
Gave up explosive run for TD, they have to coach through that
Freshman corner got hit on a double move that set up another score
Got beat on a throw to the corner of the end zone, have to turn around and play the ball there
On the whole, through the middle of the game, they stacked stops and got the offense good field position
They couldn’t play complimentary football, offense has to put the ball in the end zone
Some of that is a credit to Kentucky
They’ll be clear-eyed with evaluations and look to improve
He wanted to go to battle with what he saw late second quarter and in the third
As disappointed as he is they can pull those things and add cleaner play
They have to be disciplined and look forward

DEFENDING RAY DAVIS
Doesn’t care who the RB is
They’re looking for small wins, need to find big wins and they have to down breakout runs, force third downs and get off the field
