Since all that's left of this basketball season are hypotheticals, here's one I've discussed with non-Vandy fans after they realize our infatuation with "the streak." In this alternate universe:
- Vandy beats NW yesterday, with Riley hitting that last 3
- Vandy beats Gonzaga, making a 3 during the game
- Vandy beats Notre Dame, making a 3 during the game
- Vandy beats Arizona to make the final four, making a 3 during the game
- Vandy beats Baylor to make the championship, making a 3 during the game
- Vandy gets to 3 seconds left in the championship game vs. UK and has had no 3's made during the game. Riley has the ball at the top of the key, off a screen, and is undefended from 3 point range. Luke has slipped his man and is standing under the basket undefended, as well. A pass inside has an 80% likelihood in resulting in a made basket (but the streak is over), while Riley has a 51% chance of hitting the 3. Game is over with this shot either way. Do you favor the attempt from 3 to keep the streak alive and potentially win the game/natty or the pass inside and more probably win the game/national championship?
