OPENING STATEMENT

(Looked exhausted)
Thanked the fans for being patient through the delays, appreciated them staying around and after the game
Those are signs of things to come
The program has to bring the energy the fans do

Tipped his cap to the nutrition team
They did not have a lot of cramping issues
It was a sloppy game
They were fortunate to win
The first credit goes to Timmy Chang, he’s done a really nice job advancing that program
Wants to recognize those hurting in Hawaii
Hawaii made it hard on us tonight
They can do a lot to clean up their performance
Their energy waned through the game and that opened themselves up
They want to learn from that
But they’re happy to be 1-0

Didn’t hear the question
Sacks hurt
When they got behind the chains they didn’t get out of the hole
Three procedural penalties hurt
They got them to jump offsides on the Humphries TD though
Much to clean up there
What are the calls that allow them to finish the game up? They’ve had success in the run game before
They’ll be better

Didn’t hear next question (there’s a fan right behind me)
It’s game 1, had nothing to do with their lack of respect for Hawaii
Good teams are consistent in execution and energy, we’re not there yet
Fortunately tonight we were better than our opponent
But we’re disappointed. We can play better.
The team sees it the same way
They didn’t have their highest level

What were the defensive issues?
Riley has to be on top of the route on the deep ball he gave up late
It’s also a pressure situation on 4th-and-4
There will be plenty to scrutinize in coverage

Did they expect to get more four-man pressure?
IT’s important
They look forward to having Agu back
They shifted second quarter to 3-man rush
They were successful in doing that until the end
In some ways they wanted to be more coverage-based tonight but they need to get more pressure out of the rush
It’s not just winning 1-on-1s, it’s collapsing the pocket
Darren’s an important part of their rush but they have capable guys

De’Rickey Wright
He’s a playmaker
Long, rangy, athletic guy
Both picks were huge
Good start for him for sure

Quincy Skinner, is he hurt?
Had a hamstring issue come up Wednesday
Thought he’d be limited but he played early and played inspired
Doesn’t think it’ll be long-term

AJ Swann’s performance and some bad throws that could have been pick-6s
He’s a great player but he got sloppy
He and Sheppard connected a few times
He needs to clean up his play
That’s about being on time
Some of those sacks were poor protection
They have good players around him
The RPO reads were good
Sometimes they were out of synch

Going for 2 early
Felt like they had numbers

On not running the ball well
The run game will look different
Will have to look at the stats from a year ago
When they’re on their game offensively they’re using short passes and they’ll break some of those
Thought they had those early and lost them
Fourth-and-4 they missed, that was one they want back
That’s a big moment
Hawaii hit the big vertical right after that
He’s not concerned, they’re in lockstep with their identity

Do you need a primary back?
I don’t think so
Ultimately you get guys banged up
Game 1, I don’t want to tell you I love 39 rushing yards
Want to be conscious they have a long way to go

The rain delay, etc.,
There are positive aspects to take away
He wants to see a certain style for 60 minutes
They didn’t do that tonight
Hawaii made it hard
They’ll learn from it
They came out and started strong
Lots to build off of
