This definitely needs its own thread. I simply cannot believe what I read from @Anchordown0714 , who claims that Women’s Basketball has overtaken College Baseball as the 3rd most popular college sport.
“Also, while college wbb will never eclipse mbb or football in popularity, to say that it is unpopular is objectively untrue. Just look at viewership numbers, social media interactions, etc. Baseball has always been considered the "third" college sport and its viewership/social media interactions are far lower than those for women's basketball (exs: wbb championship game had over 3 times as many viewers as the most watched CWS game in 2023 and almost 6 times as many as the most watched CWS game in 2022, 8 of the 10 most followed college basketball players are women, wbb posts had wayyy more interaction than baseball posts by similar accounts, etc.). Wbb is definitely the third most popular college sport these days and it's growing.”
I remember just a few years ago @Chris Lee and a few others were saying that college baseball was overtaking basketball as the 2nd most popular college sport. We sort of just all agreed to disagree but settled on the growth and attendance of SEC baseball was competing with basketball.
Fast forward less than two years and because the women’s Natty game was well watched, women’s hoops has now overtaken men’s hoops? Social media interaction is proof of that?
Yes, I’m sort of making fun of @Anchordown0714 ‘s assertion but also asking if this is true? In an era where college baseball is clearly on the rise, how in the world has women’s basketball surpassed college baseball?
Is this one man’s opinion or is women’s hoops really producing more revenue now than college baseball?
Amazing topic, I hope a few of you will help make sense of this.
