We are making a lot of progress this year, more then most of us expected. We have played arguably the two best SEC teams, and were in both games late in the 4th.
I want to see, as all of us do, us to continue on this path back to respectability. What absolutely will derail that is losing to MTSU.
Some past examples of looking good against a top 10 powerhouse, only to have disaster seasons...
1977 - open season on the road in Norman, OK... VU gets screwed by several calls (surprised, I'm sure) to lose 25-23. Season record that year... 2-9
1995 - Gene Stallings brings his Alabama team in here, and wins a whacky game 33-25 (and I mean whacky, look up former VU punter Bill Marinangle's 84 yard fake punt td) after game praises VU, says they will win a lot of games... Record that year.. 2-9
I could go on and on, but you aren't inbred UT fans, you get the picture.
So, playing good teams close doesn't always translate to us having good seasons, or good teams.
And, losing a game against MTSU can also devastate potential good years. Way back in 2005, 4-0 VU loses 17-15 heartbreaker to MTSU,and finished 5-6 on the year.
This team, and this staff, NEED this win to keep the team, and it's perception, going in the right direction.
