Sorry I haven't been around a little more, this virus or whatever I've caught has really knocked me back (I slept 17 hours yesterday) though I'm feeling a little better this morning.
Based on some sourcing, I think Matt Balis is going to be the next strength coach. Not reporting it as fact because it's got to run through HR but posting a photo of yourself wearing a Vanderbilt hat would seem to be a pretty good tell:
On the OC search, there does seem to be some momentum around Tim Beck's name (OC at New Mexico State) and it wasn't the first time that name had come up. A source I have believes that he may be going through the HR vetting process also. I had said weeks ago that they would be changing offenses and try to build around a mobile QB and Beck would be ideal for that.
Said source had some thoughts on Beck if he's the hire, including these:
"Looks like a spread guy with some eye-candy blocking schemes. Going to need a dual-threat QB if he's the OC choice. He's run-game oriented by a healthy margin. I like it. ... Video shows heavy emphasis on misdirection, reverses, fake reverses, etc., the kind of stuff Vandy can use to freeze a defense and shrink the athletic disadvantage."
The OC from New Mexico State may not excite anybody but it may be the toughest place to win at in the FBS and remember, they won 10 games and won at Auburn this year.
If it is Beck, I do wonder about the chance to bring Diego Pavia with him. The stats were gaudy though he was initially a JUCO so who knows.
