I've seen here or heard on the podcast that this past school year was one of the worst for Vanderbilt fans. I did a quick ranking of the four major teams (FB, MBB, BB, WBB) for past 20 years with the following weighting (35% FB&MBB, 20% BB, and 10% WBB). Based on this calculation there were a few worst years than the past one but here are the contenders:
1998-1999 (only year with no postseason for any of the major sports)
Football 2-9 (1-7) – avg SEC loss 28 pts
Basketball 14-15 (5-11)
Baseball 22-33 (8-22)
WBB 13-14 (6-8)
2002-2003
Football 2-10 (0-8) - avg SEC loss 17.4 pts (Johnson’s first year)
Basketball 3-13 (11-18)
Baseball 27-28 (14-16) - (Corbin’s first year)
WBB: 22-10 (9-5) NCAA 2nd round
2001-2002
Football 2-9 (0-8) avg SEC loss 23.4 pts (Woody’s last year)
Basketball 17-15 (6-10) NIT 2nd round
Baseball 24-27 (7-21) - (Melbourne’s last year)
WBB 30-7 (10-4) NCAA Elite 8 – (Foster’s last year)
2000-2001
Football 3-8 (1-7) avg SEC loss 12.9 pts
MBB 15-15 (4-12)
Baseball 24-31 (9-21)
WBB 24-10 (8-6) NCAA Elite 8
2017-2018
Football 5-7 (1-7) avg SEC loss 20.8 pts
MBB 12-20 (6-12)
Baseball 34-25 (16-14) NCAA Super Reg
WBB 7-24 (3-13)
Despite the somewhat disappointing football season, it still ranks in the upper half of the past 20 years given there are so many two win seasons in comparison.
