Noting that both Louisville and Wright State each had seven hitters in their lineups who batted .300+ while Vandy had only one, what is the answer for next year and beyond to build a lineup with a greater number of more-competitive hitters? I know that we feel good about next year but only return one .300+ hitter with Riley. It seems like Brodie and a few others have the potential to be positive-percentage hitters but their averages this year don't necessarily confirm that hope.
Is it reasonable to think that we can develop what we have into largely .300+ hitters or is the portal the only way? Don't we need to flush out a few of our poor hitters in favor of stronger replacement bats? Are we satisfied with our hitting coach? Something isn't facilitating our hitting being SEC-average.
Mostly, I'm surprised at the degree of deficit that this team shouldered with such relatively poor batting averages. NCAA D1 stats say that as of May 25 we hit a paltry .264 and ranked a miserable #239 in team hitting. Team Hitting
It also isn't surprising that we were last in the SEC in both hitting and slugging percentage: SEC Stats
