ST. LOUIS - Vanderbilt lost two games by the narrowest of margins and as a result was ousted from the NCAA Bowling Championship Friday.
The Commodores dropped a thrilling game to Fairleigh Dickinson, 4 games to 3, by a mere three pins in a match that came down to the second ball of each anchor in the seventh and deciding game. The seventh game score was 232-229.
That loss pushed Vanderbilt into the loser's bracket where it jumped out to a 2 games to none lead on Wisconsin-Whitewater, only to see the Warhawks battle back to tie it at 2-2. From there it was tick tight including a 224-224 tie in Game 6. The match went into a 5-frame tie-breaker that Whitewater won, 128-96.
Vanderbilt's Robyn Renslow ended the individual portion of the tournament in second place. The team ended its season officially in seventh place nationally.
