Illinois quarterback Jack Elliot signed with the Commodores on Wednesday, and the 6-foot and 195-pound quarterback drew high praise from Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea. He talked with VandySports.com about his senior season and his future transition to Nashville.
"My senior season finished off great. I battled injuries all year especially during the regular season. I separated my throwing shoulder, but I came back quick and led my team to a state championship while getting my third in a row," said Elliot.
Elliot was recruited to Vanderbilt by offensive coordinator Tim Beck. Elliot believes his skill set will fit well into the Commodore scheme.
"I would say best attribute is winning. No matter what it takes, I’m going to get the win. I can throw all over you with anticipation and timing while making any level throw against any defense coverage. I can also beat you with my legs, whether that is scrambling on a pass play and creating positive yardage or running quarterback power 15-20 times a game. I would just say that I’m a winner, and I’m bringing a championship mindset to the program," said Elliot.
With that mentality and dual-threat ability, it is hard not to compare Elliot to current Vanderbilt starting quarterback Diego Pavia.
"I wouldn’t compare our actual game play with each other because we are two different players. Getting to be around Diego, we both have that mentality of no matter what you think about us that we are going to prove you wrong," said Elliot.
Over the past three seasons, Elliot helped lead Mount Carmel to a combined record of 38-4 and three straight state championships. He plans to enroll at Vanderbilt in the summer.
