Running Back News
As I mentioned in an earlier post, Crest (NC) running back Here is an article Justin did with Harbison last week.
A couple of teammates to keep an eye on is West Hall (Ga.) backfield duo of Kwon Williams. Both are versatile athletes that the Commodores like at the running back position. Both intend to visit for one of the Commodores upcoming junior day events and since they are teammates, I'm sure they will likely visit together. Other programs contending for Statham include Duke and Wake Forest while Williams has offers from Wake Forest, NC State, Cincinnati, and others.
Another name to keep an eye is Robinson (Ark.) three-star athlete T.J. Hammonds. He told us that he spoke with DL coach Frank Maile on Sunday night and he has sent in his transcripts to Vanderbilt yesterday. He said Bankins really likes his abilities at running back, so Hammonds could likely get an offer from the coaching staff soon. He currently has offers from Louisiana Tech, Marshall, and Tulsa but has drawn some interest from other SEC schools like Alabama and Auburn. He had 2,067 yards on 108 touches last season...pretty impressive!
Deuce Update
Talked further with Sevier Co. (Tn) quarterback Deuce Wallace regarding his recent offer from WKU, I asked him about Vanderbilt and he is all set to visit on Thursday. He said he was going to talk with Andy Ludwig tonight as well. Wallace is a prospect we've liked for a long time and feel an offer from the Commodores could be coming his way on his visit this week. Wallace said he is also going to visit Wake Forest on Saturday as well.
Quick Hitters
Talked with McCallie (Tn) defensive lineman Corey McDonald, he said he is still hearing from Vanderbilt and intends to visit for one of their junior day events coming up. He currently has offers from UT-Martin and Chattanooga, but is receiving interest from the likes of Louisville, MTSU, and others.
Berkeley Prep (Fla.) three-star defensive tackle Bo Peek committed to Stanford today, so that is a Vanderbilt target that is currently off the board.
