One key culprit here is that college football ADs by-and-large suck. A long time ago they got suckered into bad contracts that pay coaches not to coach. Now when you want to make a move the pain is so real.

I'm not even that upset about keeping Mason, but the general tide of public opinion is so strong against keeping him that I generally think his job just got even harder.
