It's about that time to pass along some recruiting notes to the fine folks here at VandySports.com, so here we go!
- Obviously, the clock is still ticking on when Vanderbilt will land their first commitment in football. From everything we've gathered it appears that Tyler Lytle could possibly be that guy with his decision set for June.
- If Lytle doesn't end up committing to Vanderbilt, then expect to make big pushes for Chase Garbers and recently offered Jacob Free. Fayetteville (Ark.) product Taylor Powell could still be in the mix, but we didn't really get a good vibe from him after he visited during the spring.
- Another quarterback to possibly keep an eye on is Kyle Vantrease out of Stow-Munroe (Oh.). Andy Ludwig made a visit up there last week to evaluate the 6-foot-2, 210-pound prospect.
- Also, Vanderbilt is keeping an eye on two 2018 in-state quarterbacks this spring in John Foreback and Gavin Schoenwald. Gerry Gdowski watched Foreback throw earlier in the spring and Ludwig swung by Brentwood Academy last Wednesday to watch Schoenwald throw as well. Ironically, Ludwig did not watch Jeremiah Oatsvall throw which I personally find odd.
I recently caught up with Foreback, who told me the staff wants him to camp next month and watch him in person: In-state 2018 QB continuing to hear from Vanderbilt
- Chicago area inside linebacker target Micah Awodiran is planning to visit Vanderbilt on June 7th. He picked up an offer from the Commodores back on April 7th.
- Also, another linebacker prospect to keep an eye on is one of the in-state variety - Whitehaven's Aubrey Miller has told us he is hearing from Vanderbilt as well. We hope to have a more in-depth interview with him in the next few days. He just recently picked up an offer from Louisville.
- By all accounts, it looks like the coaching staff is wanting this year's Friday Night Lights camp to be a huge event in terms of their top targets coming in and competing and collecting a few commitments in the process. We'll start keeping a list of expected visitors for FNL as we continue to reach out to Vanderbilt's top guys in the coming weeks.
Two guys we already know are expected are Los Angeles area defensive back Elijah Hicks and New Orleans area wide receiver Jeremy Singleton. In case you missed it, I caught up with Singleton this past week which you can check out at the following link: Singleton ready for Nashville visit
- On the basketball front, our man @David Sisk went down to Birmingham and caught up with Alex Reese, Jamal Johnson, and Garrison Brooks.
He's already posted an article on Reese which you can find here: Catching up with prized recruit Alex Reese
He'll have more on Johnson and Brooks later.
Also, David blew the Larry Austin, Jr. transfer coverage out of the water this week with two fantastic article, one with Austin Jr. himself and another with his AAU coach and high school coach. You can catch those at the links below:
