It really feels like to me we will end up with a coach other than the names to be leaked so far - John Thompson III, Johnny Dawkins or Casey Alexander.
So let's look at some of the other reasonable possibilities and consider who you would prefer -
Ed Cooley (Providence, 49 years old) - Overall record of 254-179, 5 NCAAT in 8 years at Providence, 2 NITs. He missed the postseason just once which was his first year. The downside is the 71-73 record in the Big East but that is skewed by the 4-14 record his first season.
Steve Wojciechowski - (Marquette, 42 years old) - Overall record of 97-69, 2 NCAAT in 5 years, 1 NIT. He also has a below .500 record in Big East play at 43-47 which is skewed by the 4-14 record in his first season. His teams are good offensively but often struggle defensively and late in seasons.
Mike Rhoades (VCU, 46 years old) - Overall record of 287-151. Hear me out on this one, much of his tenure was spent coaching in DIII, but he served for 5 years under Shaka Smart at VCU before taking the Rice job. His turnaround of the Rice program was impressive before going back to VCU where he led them to 25 wins this season.
Others to consider - Wes Miller (Greensboro), Tad Boyle (Colorado), Earl Grant (College of Charleston)
