Wifey-poo and I watched the whole game. She's usually too nervous to watch, but tonight she brought some of her late inning MO-JO. She used to bake treats that she took to the VandyBoys during Easter weekend road trips to Tuscaloosa.
1. It was ABOUT TIME (when Corbs chewed the VandyBoys asses out big time in the 4th). This team has been sleep walking since they got to OMAHA.
2. Enrique Bradfield is a legend in the making. Javier Vaz is a local kid from here in North Alabama where I live. Together they are my new "DYNAMIC DUO".
3. That was a brilliant move to pinch hit Spencer Jones against the right hander in the 9th. Stanford played dirty ball bringing Beck in to pitch to Gonzalez in the middle of an at bat. However, later on, Beck figuratively shit his pants when he saw Jones. They're from Cali and they know who he is.
4. I still wonder what the Hell was going on in right field tonight. Misplaying fly balls just won't cut it. Errors by the middle infielders cost us 3 tonight.
5. I knew we needed a right handed bat in the DH spot against those Cardinal lefties, but I was questioning Corbs putting Tate Kolwyck in the DH spot. After 19 seasons you would think that I would stop questioning the GOAT. Tate's hit in the 6th was huge.
6. It's feast or famine with Dominic Keegan. That kid just needs to make contact. His homer got way out in a hurry. He also gave a great interview over on the SEC Network after ESPN dropped the live feed.
7. Christian Little got quality time on the mound and "valuable, loud, extended, and direct" coaching from Brownie in the dugout. Christian showed a lot of promise.
8. The "3-M Company" of relief pitchers were MMMarvelous. And, although he did not record an out, Hugh Fisher did his job pitching to the red hot Jones; and setting things up for Luke Murphy to shut things down in the 8th.
9. Note: Parker Noland did hit well and he had an RBI, but we definitely still have some guys that need extra time in the batting cages.
10. I still hate "JUNK BALL" pitchers, and I still wonder why Mike Baxter can not advise our hitters how to adjust?
11. I am so glad the backstop at TD AMERITRADE FIELD is way way way behind home plate.
12. Not to be missed tonight is the fact that the VandyBoys pitchers collectively struck out 12, and only gave up 2 "earned runs".
13. Jason Gonzalez made 2 really fine plays at 3rd base tonight. He threw a runner out at the plate early and later held a runner at 3rd and got the hitter at first.
14. I believe the happiest guy on the team tonight has to be Carter Young. Just when it appeared all was lost, there was a brief shot of him with his head down on the dugout rail padding during the 9th inning. I felt his emotion when he was standing in the batter's box as that last "Wild Pitch" sailed over the catcher, and Spencer Jones loped homeward. Young threw his bat away, and I'm not sure it stayed on the field as he grabbed Jones in celebration.
VANDY, VANDY, OH HELL YES !!!!!!
