Got some pretty decent info on the scrimmage today. Here is what I have gathered.
OFFENSE
My guess at a first team:
QB Ken Seals
RB Keyon Brooks
WR Cam Johnson
WR Chris Pierce
WR Amir Abdur-Rahman
TE Ben Bresnahan
LT Tyler Steen
LG Dan Dawkins
C Grant Mlller
RG Julian Hernandez
RT Connor Mignone
Some notes from today and from camp overall:
I’ll be surprised if Seals isn’t the guy and I don’t think it’s going to be close. I think he’s running first team constantly and making the fewest mistakes.
I think Danny Clark is going to be his backup.
Coach Derek Mason said earlier in the week that tailback will be “by committee.” I’m hearing a lot about Brooks (who I heard had a score today) and Ja’Veon Marlow—heard good things about each in the scrimmage today—and I suspect those are their top two backs.
I heard the starting offensive line was a really pleasant surprise today. Was told it was a night-and-day difference over last Saturday.
Mason had mentioned that they’d moved a defensive lineman over to offense and I’m pretty sure it’s Drew Birchmaier. I’m not sure what his role’s going to be but I’ll keep my ears open.
My guess at backup tackles: Bradley Ashmore and Brayden Bapst.
DEFENSE
My guess at a first team:
DE Rutger Reitmaier
DT Cameron Tidd
DT Daevion Davis
DE Dayo Odeyingbo
OLB Alston Orji
MLB Dimitri Moore
OLB Kenny Hebert
CB D.C. Williams
CB Jaylen Mahoney
S Frank Coppet
S Dashaun Jerkins
Some notes from today and from camp overall:
Among the starters, I probably feel most confident about Odeyingbo, Moore, Orji, Williams, Mahoney, Tidd and Coppet.
I have a sneaking suspicion that Reitmaier will either start or be a huge factor. My eyes told me in the spring that he’d taken a huge leap up and I think the coaches mentioned that a time or two. I think they used him more outside during the spring but IIRC they moved him inside some also.
I think they’re going to rotate a lot along the line.
Where I’m really the least sure is what they do at that other safety spot. I don’ know if that’s Jerkins, or maybe Max Worship, or if a freshman like Donovan Kaufman emerges (I’m not hearing a ton about Kaufman, but will throw that in there just to cover myself) or what they do with Anfernee Orji, because I have heard he’s also been a factor at times.
I heard that Moore had a pick-6 today.
I’ll start with position previews next week so will see if I can dig up some more details on a lot of players between now and then.
