- Pitching a concern?
Sam Hliboki got knocked around pretty good and Miller Green gave up a run, but I thought Cunningham, Dutkanych, and McElvain were really solid. FAU is a dangerous team to play on opening day because 1) they can really hit the baseball and 2) they've been training in warm weather and may have a comfort advantage (even though it was sub-30 degree temps today). I expect Devin Futrell to pitch extremely well tomorrow because of the way he pitches.
- Jayden Davis
The Samford transfer had a clutch 2 RBI double, that ended up proving to be huge for the Commodores. After the game, Corbin said, "He gets the barrel consistently, he's a hitter. He's got a good feel of the bat."
- Bryce Cunningham
The junior right-hander out of Alabama had a solid first outing of the season. He pitched four innings, striking out five, while only giving up three hits and three walks.
- Lack of offense
The Commodores finished with only three hits after finishing with 15 yesterday. FAU's Bryan Boully looked mighty impressive out of the pen with 3.2 innings of 1 hit ball to slam the door. Corbin complimented him after the game:
“Yeah, kind of a funky delivery. Aggressive kid. He was able to command the off-speed pitch and he went to it any time. Then his fastball was quick enough to sneak by you too, so he basically split the mentality of the hitter, that's a difference maker when you can throw that pitch for strikes."
Intrigued by tomorrow's rubber match. Devin Futrell will go for Vandy with a 2pm first pitch.
