I hate West Coast holiday tournament basketball. The game is scheduled to start at 8:59 PM tomorrow night, however, it could tip-off even later if the first game runs long. For the record, 11:59 EST is too late for me, unfortunately. Now, with that off my chest . . . .
Here are a few questions (admittedly some of them are rhetorical and others satirical):
Here are a few questions (admittedly some of them are rhetorical and others satirical):
- Will Randy Bennett use his 20 + years of coaching St. Mary's and run circles around Stackhouse? Yes
- Will Ezra Manjon be so excited getting back to the West Coast that he speeds his game up too much to the tune of 7 or 8 turnovers? Yes (although I understand he was sick)
- Will the "real" Tyrin Lawrence reappear, e.g., not the good one, following his best game as a Dore? Meh because of his defense
- Will Myles Stute be psyched out by the cavernous sight lines in an almost empty arena and go 0-8 from "3"? No
- Will Jordan Wright play like a mature, experienced senior or revert back to a level of play shown across games 1 and 2 of this year? Mature and Experienced
- Will Liam Robbins stay anchored (pun intended) on the offensive end of the floor no more than 5 feet from the basket and not hack away at the defensive end of the floor albeit 20 feet from the basket? Yes
- Will we miss Trey Thomas' ball handling and defensive prowess more than we ever imagined? No Response
- Will all of our frosh hyperventilate from their first tourney experience and go a collective 1 for 14 from the floor with 7 turnovers and 2 rebounds? Wow, did I partially nail this one . . . 0 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist across 22 minutes and, in contrast, look at the performance of St. Mary's freshman guard with 20 points (Composite 4 Star player but listed at 6'2" and 150 pounds; only Power school offer was Stanford as I might guess the 150 pounds scared people plus he played at a high school in Moraga)
- Will St. Mary's get revenge for Jeff Taylor's monster dunks in their gym in Moraga? (Of course, I doubt the players even know who Jeff is.) Yes
- Will St. Mary's frustrate the Dores with their precise running of offensive sets? Yes, and, in particular, can someone learn how to defend the pick and roll
- Will the Dores "go too fast" to make up for the "slow paced" Gaels style of play and force up enough bricks to rebuild a Vandy dorm complex? In the first half . . . Yes
- Will St. Mary's win by their average margin of 20 + points just because we are just another out of conference foe to feast on over Thanksgiving? No . . . only half-way to a 20 point win
