Some of Vanderbilt's future opponents had their spring games yesterday in Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss, and South Carolina. I got to see bits and pieces of the Florida, Georgia, and Ole Miss games.

- Florida is running a pro-style offense under new head coach Jim McElwain. They have some serious issues along the offensive line this spring, as they only had 7 scholarship linemen playing in the game. Many believe 5-star true freshman Ivey will start in the offensive line. They also have a quarterback competition between Will Grier and Treon Harris. Just watching yesterday, it looks to me like Grier is likely the better fit for what McElwain wants to do. He's got a strong arm, and he is more athletic than what people give him credit for. Defensviely, Muschamp stocked that roster for the most part. The corner duo of Hargreaves-Tabor is impressive.

- I only watched Georgia for a short amount of time, but they have talent at running back and tight end. One concern is talent at the wide receiver position. They also have a quarterback battle between Brice Ramsey and Faton Bauta. Ramsey was 5/9 for 174 yards and a touchdown. Bauta was 16/25 for 171 yards and a touchdown. Both were efficient throughout the scrimmage.

- Ole Miss also has a quarterback competition. Unlike Georgia, Ole Miss' quarterbacks struggled a bit throughout the day, but some of that was due to drops by the receivers. Chad Kelly looks like the favorite to win the job heading into the summer. He was 9/19 for a touchdown and an interception. Ole Miss also had depth issues along the offensive line this spring, which led to them moving former quarterback Jeremy Liggins to offensive tackle. He is 6-foot-3 and 296-pounds. All-American candidate Tunsil got injured in the bowl game and will be back in the fall. Jordan Wilkins was their top back yesterday, and it looks as though Wilkins and Walton will get the bulk of the carries. The defense looked good yesterday. They have a talented front four led by Robert Nkemdiche.

These are just some of my observations from yesterday. When I get a chance to watch the South Carolina scrimmage, I will likely add to this thread. The one thing about the SEC this year is uncertainty at quarterback, and that is the one position that you can't afford to be bad at. You can typically hide a bad wide receiver or right guard, but you can't hide bad quarterback play.
