Cason worked for Smart last season at VCU. He joins Mike Morrell and former South Carolina coach Darrin Horn as assistants on the Longhorns' staff.
Prior to his one season under Smart, Cason spent three seasons on Kevin Stallings staff' at Vanderbilt. He has deep roots in the state of Texas from his time at Tulsa (2005-11) and TCU (2003-05).
