On a crisp cool clear night at Nashville’s Hawkins Field, the #5 ranked VandyBoys blasted the Gamecocks of South Carolina or as they are referred to on the Rivals network, Carlsjr, by a score of 10-2. The offense was led by Austin Martin and Isaiah Thomas with a combined four home runs. Freshman CJ Rodriguez chipped in with a grand slam, and Cooper Davis had a two run inside the park home run, that was originally intended to be a sac bunt attempt. Mason Hickman threw 8 innings of shutout baseball, striking out 10, with six hits and five walks allowed, before Corbs turned things over to Luke Murphy in the 9th. Murphy’s command was off as he allowed two solo home runs before being pulled for Erik Kaiser. I guess it’s true that chicks dig the long ball, as all 12 runs came via the home run. Tomorrow at 2 pm the VandyBoys will go for the series win with Kumar Rocker on the bump.
