Apologies if this has already been posted elsewhere, but…

We are at the precipice of something historic this year. Could this be the worst Vanderbilt Basketball team of all time? I went back through past records and looked for the lowest winning percentage. The records go back to the 1900-01 season, and the lowest I saw was from the 1945-46 team that ended the season with a record of 3-10 – i.e., they had a win percentage of 23.1%.

Currently, this year’s team is 5-13 (27.8% win percentage). We have 13 regular season games remaining plus 1 or 2 games in the SEC tournament. If we win 2 more games in the regular season, we’ll go into the SEC tournament with a record of 7-24 (22.6% win percentage). Then if we lose in the first round of the SEC tournament, we’ll finish 7-25 (21.9% win percentage). This would be the lowest win percentage of all-time.

In case you needed a rooting interest for the remainder of the season, I believe the magic number is 3. We need to win 3 more games in either the regular season or the SEC tournament to avoid being the worst team in Vanderbilt history! Think about that. Jerry is in the 5th year of his contract, and he could hold the record for the worst Vanderbilt team in the last 123 years! If we can win 3 more games and get to 8 wins on the season, we’ll assuredly best the 1945-46 team in terms of win percentage.
