Here are a few news and notes from the Atlanta Rivals Camp on Saturday:
I talked with Vanderbilt RB target Brittain Brown out of Cherokee (Ga.) yesterday before the camp started. He told me that Duke just recently offered him and that he has visited Georgia Tech and Clemson so far this spring. In regards to Vanderbilt, he hand a lot of great things to say about the Commodores and intends to visit Nashville again in a couple of weeks.
Newly offered 2017 running back Kurt Taylor out of Newton (Ga.) came up to me and introduced himself. That kid has a solid frame and a set of guns on him that popped out of his camp jersey. It was his first Rivals camp experience and he did really well from my observations.
Another Vanderbilt target that performed well on Saturday was Pearl Cohn (Tenn.) wide receiver Rontavius Groves, who showed off his quickness and speed to get open during one-on-one competition. Groves can change direction on a dime and has another gear he shifted into on deep routes. I talked to him before camp started and he said he intends to visit Vanderbilt in a couple of weeks, he said he really needed to get there and check things out again.
I also had an opportunity to chat with Walton (Ga.) quarterback Josh White, he said he still hears from Vanderbilt frequently and that Coach Bankins and Coach Ludwig intend to visit his school during the next live period and watch him throw. White said that a Nashville visit is in the works in the coming weeks as well. He was one of the standout quarterbacks yesterday, especially during one-on-one competition. Did a great job of placing the ball where only the receiver had a chance to snag it.
3-star McEachern (Ga.) tight end Christian Roberson had a good showing yesterday as well, he told me that he is sending his transcripts to Vanderbilt this weekend and hoping to visit Nashville sometime soon. Roberson has offers from the likes of Florida, Louisville, Michigan, and a host of others.
Recent Vanderbilt visitor Stephen Moye was a walk-up participant during yesterday's camp and looked solid at defensive end, showing off his quickness at the snap, active hands, and spin moves to get the best of the offensive line from what I observed.
Hoover (Ala.) linebacker Jeremiah Moon was another Vanderbilt target that was solid yesterday. Moon is extremely athletic and uses his 6-foot-4 frame to his advantage, which he did during pass coverage drills on Saturday.
