In rank order:
Optimism
1. Mason's introspection to make changes. Tough ones at that.
2. Ludwig (versus Dorrell)
3. New S & C program
4. Significant talent on defense.
Pessimism:
1. Can Mason be a successful head coach? The only really empirical evidence we have is "no"
2. Tremendous lack of depth at RB, Oline, and a bit at WR and secondary.
3. Inconsistent QB play.
4. Two significant injuries before the season even started.
What did I miss? I'm not entirely buying the whole optimism d coordinator head coach aspect other than I obviously realize I could easily be wrong, but it's one data point against a team that was decimated by injuries by that time of year. So the jury is just still out imo
