Woulda, shoulda, coulda's get you no where in life and especially when performance is judged by wins and losses.

There are some positives. Team looks greatly improved in many areas from UT game. I do not compare to Temple because VU has to be night and day from that game.

  • Better open field in space tackling. They missed a few times late in the 3rd and 4th quarter but better than UT game
  • Offense moved the ball at times well and had some good formation sets to play calls. Better than UT game
  • VU played faster than a year ago.
  • Better tempo in play calling on both sides of the ball
Areas to improve:
  • Better use of offensive personnel in the red zone and better execution
  • Win turnover battle. VU defense has a hard time getting turnovers last year and this game.
  • Getting it done - last 13 games they find ways to lose
What else to say other than to say the loss is depressing. Talked to a players parent that felt same way. Depressing to give game away when should have won by 2 touchdowns.

The team will get better for next week. But the competition will be much better. No easy games but AP left.

Tough time now. Can Mason lead the team to overcome adversity? Can he teach them to do the little things to win?

Interesting stat. The last 13 games under CJF they were 9-4. Last 13 games with this staff 3-10. What is the difference? VU won the close games and beat teams they could beat. This team found ways to beat themselves tonight.

No way VU could go 3 possessions inside red zone and score no points. You get one touchdown and you win the damn game.

Somehow this team has not found a way to win yet. Time to do it now.

I know the coaches and players want this to happen more than anyone.
