Some quick Sunday night recruiting notes...
- As the not-so-surprising news of 3-star center Toleafoa Auwae committing to UCLA on Friday hit, there is still a good feeling that Vanderbilt will get an official visit from him down the road and has a shot at flipping him. Since UCLA was the only school he visited among his final list of schools, he essentially had to commit to the Bruins to secure a spot.
- While former Miss. State commit Zaire Jones ended up not visiting Vanderbilt this past weekend, a visit to Nashville is expected sometime this week. We're hearing that Tuesday or Wednesday could be a possibility. We're still getting a good sense that he could flip to the Commodores, but time will tell and sometime this week could be that time.
- After talking with 2017 Lipscomb Academy defensive tackle Rutger Reitmaier after his visit this weekend, we have a very good feeling that the Commodores can land him. He really loves the coaching staff and says he continues to be impressed with the program. He's definitely one to keep an eye that could end up being the first Vanderbilt commit for the 2017 class.
- Morristown-West (Tenn.) running back DeAndre Delaney also visited over the weekend. The Vanderbilt coaching staff really likes his skillset and are planning to keep a close eye on him and evaluating him further throughout the upcoming season. At 6-foot-2, 194-pounds, he could be a running back prospect that climbs up Vandy's list this fall.
- I mentioned this in another thread, but Centreville (Va.) defensive end Christian Brooks informed us that he was not able to make it to Vanderbilt this past weekend but hopes to make the trip back to Nashville this upcoming weekend. He visited Vanderbilt already in the spring and he's a big defensive target for the Commodores, who like him at either defensive end or outside linebacker.
