Junior Kumar Rocker went the distance on Friday evening, as the second-ranked Vanderbilt baseball team downed No. 4 Mississippi State, 6-2, at Hawkins Field. With the win, the Commodores eclipse the 30-win mark and improve to 30-6 on the season, including an 12-4 mark in Southeastern Conference play.
Rocker notched the second complete game of his career—first since 2019—to pick up his nation-leading ninth win of the season and improve to 9-1 on the campaign. The right-hander allowed two runs (one earned), while limiting the Bulldog hitters to just three hits on the evening.
Saturday
Starter Jack Leiter suffered the loss, marking his first of the season and the first of his career. The right-hander worked 5.0 innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out eight batters.
With his eight punchouts, Leiter surpassed the 100-strikeout mark this season, becoming the first Division I pitcher to do. He currently owns a total of 102 on the campaign.
The trio of Hunter Owen, Nelson Berkwich and Luke Murphy covered the final four innings for Vanderbilt. Berkwich and Murphy worked the final two frames, holding the Bulldogs to just one hit across the span.

After an early exit from starter Patrick Reilly, Chris McElvain provided Vanderbilt with a stellar outing out of the bullpen to pick up his third win of the season and improve to 3-0. McElvain worked a career-long 5.2 innings of one-run baseball, allowing five hits and two walks while picking up four strikeouts.
Nick Maldonado earned his third save of the season, covering the final 3.1 innings. Maldonado held the Bulldogs hitless across the span, while striking out four batters in the effort.
