CLARK LEA
Good bye week, they’re energized and ready to get back to playing
Ole Miss skilled on offense, backs are talented, good defense, gave Auburn a hard time
INJURIES
Gamarion Carter—lower body—out indefinitely and maybe the whole year
Ezra McAllister—will have season-ending surgery
CJ Taylor—has a custom brace—doubtful this week
Grayson Morgan—back
Kane Patterson—looking better
De’Rickey Wright—questionable—working through scar tissue
Jake Ketschek—back involved in practice with a monitored workload
ON KEN SEALS
He’s a leader and a galvanizing presence
Has earned respect with how he’s battled adversity, owns his mistakes, has good rapport. Has done a great job leading that unit.
Have been some bright spots, has made some mistakes but he’s protected the ball and gotten them organized (3:20ish in)
They’ve been on the same page with protection and account for guys
“I just think there’s a lot of maturity in his game. We’ve been pleased with how he’s coming and injecting life into that group.”
They reserve the right to keep evaluating but they respect him and have confidence in him
AJ SWANN, IS HE STILL THE QB OF THE FUTURE?
Was out of practice with elbow soreness and had a setback today
He wants to be the guy, as does everyone
He responded well the last couple of weeks with the competition
“He has all the tools to be our No. 1.”
As for future, they’re living week to week right now and Ken is talented and capable
AJ has started and earned it at times
But right now Ken puts them in the best position
MARTEL HIGHT AND BJ ANDERSON
Anderson’s is longer term, it’s a weird sequence that started UNLV week, it was a viral illness that kept him out and then it was a groin pull that became a significant injury. They hope to get him back before season’s end. But he’s not taking reps.
Martel is available
FOUR-GAME PLAYING TIME CANDIDATES (SANNIENOLA, KOLLIE)
Indicated Sannienola would probably be back
Sounds like Kollie won’t be
They may be able to get a look at some freshmen, mentioned AJ Newberry but not sure when that shows up
It’s all geared towards winning
ADVANTAGE IN BYE WEEK
A lot of time in corrections
There are patterns that show up over time
Take inventory of where there eyes are on plays that have been problematic (my words and not his)
On offense, it’s about building out package plays and creative formations that give them matchups they like
Find ways to stretch the field horizontally and in turn help the run game
Getting key guys back was the big priority
Can they play without their systems more efficiently and create pressure
QUINSHON JUDKINS, DID THEY RECRUIT HIM AND HOW DID THEY EVALUATE HIM?
They look beyond surface evaluations to find film into what kind of a player a person is
He’s explosive and dynamic and can break tackles
There were aspects of that in his HS film
The way they use gap schemes and pullers helps him break longer runs
PASS RUSH
Needs to get better
So much is how 4-5 guys collaborate
They feel if they can collapse the space on the QB then they can finish plays off the edge
Vs. Ole Miss they have to watch for escape lanes
GEORGIA POSITIVES
The mentality of the program shifts compared to getting blown out the last couple of years
This year they fought and they’re out there to compete to win
They have to play better and sometimes the messages become repetitive about margins and such
The sequence before half was frustrating. Maybe they should have gotten to the half in that spot.
They’ve not done a good job of defending the run and that’s frustrating
The big push for them is continuing to demand that extra investment, going further with the team so where they see the same things on Saturday
Too offen it’s “we should have” or “we could have” and they have to answer those questions on Tuesday in a way they play with confidence on Saturday
Feels they’re moving further along
It’s fun to go play a game on the road and see if they can play well against a talented team
