I have a summer job at GM, cutting grass with 3 other college students. While we were on break yesterday they were talking about how nice their pay checks were and I noticed that mine was significantly less than all three of theirs.
I didn't believe them so they pulled up their pay statements and showed me how much they made. When comparing it to mine, they didn't have any "FEDERAL WITHHOLDING" taken out of their checks but I had almost a days worth of money taken out of mine.
They got concerned that they were getting 10.99'd so went and talk to someone and they were told they were fine. One asked their dad who works in business and he said that if you makes less than $6,500 a year, then you do not have to pay federal withholding.
(We are all single. All makes less than 6,500 dollars, all students, etc).
So do I just have to live with making a hundred less dollars a week than each of them? What do I do?
