The bottom line in sports is "just win, baby", as the late Al Davis used to say.
We are 2-0. Was it pretty? Nope. Do we have serious issues? Yep. But, 2-0 is 2-0. Like someone else said in another thread, we had 3 seasons in a row recently where we only won 5 games total. So, lets be happy with 2-0.
Now, what needs to happen for 2-0 to be 6 or 7 wins? A lot.
1. The offensive line has to get a lot better. The same effort they've given through two games wins us MAYBE the UNLV game, maybe. That's it. That effort won't beat an SEC school.
2. The defensive line has to be a lot better. They really haven't been any better than the offensive line, but we are either going to win or lose games this year on offense, so I think the offensive line is more important. But to slow down opposing offenses every now and then, we need better play up front on defense. Also, better play up front will help #3....
3. The secondary has to get better. The Hawaii QB carved them up. Heck, even Alabama A&M beat us over the top for a 60+ yard TD. That's unacceptable, and will have us setting bad defensive records this year if they don’t start playing better.
4. Swann and his receivers have to get better. Swann has been ok so far, but he has missed some throws. The receivers have some drops. This Swann and his receivers part of the team has to be better, because we are basically only going to win games based on them having big games. The effort from both in the first two games won't beat a good team on our schedule.
Again, we should all be happy with 2-0. But, there's a LOT to improve on to win 4 more games. And, it starts Saturday against Wake.
