Hard to understate how much Tyler Nickel has shined in Vandy lore this past month.
You could talk his 7 treys today, you could talk his clutch free-throw shooting, you could talk his clutch playmaking, and I love all those things.
But I most love what a great teammate he is, and it’s infectious.
For all his superlatives, he’s a blue-collar player who fits right in with Manon, Huffman, and Glock on The League of Extraordinary Glue Guys 💯
Some of my favorite Nickel plays are his slash drives to the basket where he KNOWS he’s not athletic enough to actually make the bucket clean, but he uses his body and drives aggressively enough that it’s a strong likelihood he draws fouls and heads to the charity stripe.
Nickel’s Helpside D is also a very underrated part of how he helps our team excel overall. He is a major part of our defensive game plan inside, and deserves more credit for his contributions there.
While Edwards & Hoggard let Vandy down today, Nickel has continued his run of brilliant, inspired play, and I can definitely now see what North Carolina saw in him coming out of HS.
