Wild and woolly, as Monmouth snaps Iona's 26 game home winning streak, 110-102, getting a big win in the MAAC. Following the game, pushing and shoving during the "handshakes", and then a player from Iona (Washington) sucker punches a Monmouth player. Took about 10 minutes to clear the floor.
A lot of people may not be aware, but these two teams have a huge rivalry, and things were getting heated during the game. Quite frankly, the officials did a poor job, allowing things to escalate and not calling fouls that needed to be called. Still, big win for King Rice and his team, pulling them to within 1/2 game of Iona for the lead in the MAAC. Monmouth's point guard, Justin Robinson, is 5' 7", but he is something else; 29 points, including 12-12 from the line; also had 4 boards, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
Iona's coach got things going before the game, as he stated he didn't know if Monmouth's bench players, who have been rather entertaining with some of their celebrations, were actually on the team, or just cheerleaders wearing basketball uniforms. Needless to say, the bench ate that up, and performed accordingly.
