Here is a breakdown of who Rivals Analysts Woody Wommack and Rob Cassidy thought were the standout performers from Sunday's event:
Top Defensive Performers: Playmakers 7-on-7
No surprise here, with the likes of Vanderbilt targets JoeJuan Williams and Ikenna Okeke holding down the top two spots. On the rest of the list, you can tell there will be no shortage of young talent coming through the ranks in the mid-state in the next couple of years. You also had Malique Fleming of Hillsboro and Shedrick Kirk of McGovack at the four and five spots at defensive back, both guys showed with Fleming displaying his versatility and Kirk showing off his length during the tryouts.
Top Offensive Performers: Playmakers 7-on-7
At the number one spot is a bit of surprise in Overton product Elijah Pankey, he worked out wide receiver on Sunday and really stood out during one-on-one's and was an effective deep threat receiver. The thing you hear the most about Pearl Cohn's Rontavius Groves is his speed, and in-person, he is really fast! He used his speed, footwork, and shiftiness to consistently get open all day. Caleb Rozar is another wide receiver that has shown strides in the past year, the biggest improvement in his game is his route-running ability and he showed why he'll likely be one of state's best in 2017. Father Ryan wide receiver Bryce Vickers put in a solid performance as well, showing off his physical toolset on Sunday. This was Vickers competitive on-field action since he suffered a season-ending injury last year.
