Vanderbilt got it's first commitment of the 2020 Class with a pledge from Washington D.C. forward,
Myles Stute.
The 6-foot-7 product out of Gonzaga College High School took his official visit to the West End over the weekend, and came away impressed enough to pledge his next four years to Jerry Stackhouse and the university.
This was Stute's first official visit. He had others planned for later in September to Florida and Virginia Tech. Marquette, Clemson, Texas A&M, and Pitt were also in the hunt.
This was the second time on campus for Stute within a month. He took an unofficial visit early in August when this Commodore regime hosted its first Elite Camp.
Stute is listed as a power forward, but he has the versatility to play the small forward spot as well. Clevon Brown is the only senior on this season's roster. Stute is a different player than the 6-foot-9 Brown, but playing time should be available for him right away in the Commodores lineup.
Corey Evans has watched Stute's progression almost religiously in the past two years and has done several scouting reports that should aid Commodore fans in locking back at his development and looking ahead at what to expect on the next level.
"There wasn’t much to not like about Myles Stute during his time on the floor Friday, providing the glue for his talented Gonzaga College High bunch. A 6-foot-7 sophomore with plenty of versatility, Stute, who grew up in Minneapolis before moving to the DMV a few years back, is primed to carry a high-major recruitment in the nearby future. Already, Penn, James Madison, George Mason, George Washington and UMass have offered as the versatile forward will be soon valued for his multi-positional defense, passing and rebounding abilities." - Corey Evans 12/08/17
"While he is still attempting to make the transition solely to the small forward position, Stute embodies all that you look for in a long-term prospect. A 6-foot-6 sophomore that competes like his life is on the line, can make shots to the perimeter, is a sneaky athlete at the basket, and is a willing defender that can guard up to three positions on the floor, Stute checks many of the boxes. Toss in the fact that he plays for one of the best 16-under teams in America, Team Takeover, and plays for one of the most respected high school coaches in America with Steve Turner at Gonzaga College High School, and one would expect for Stute to only get better as he ages. I am buying now into the entire picture that is Stute’s profile as a high-major prospect." Corey Evans 7/06/18
"A native of Minnesota that moved to the nation’s capital three years ago, Stute is on the cusp of his breakout thanks to his two-way contributions. He has improved his athleticism, is more than okay in accepting whichever role his head coach Steve Turner asks of him, and is someone that fits today’s positionless basketball well." - Corey Evans 1/27/19.
"I’d have to side with Myles Stute. No, he is not a high-rising athlete or a giant for his position on the floor, but he is a competitive combo forward prospect that can do a litany of things.
Take for instance the NBPA Top 100 Camp earlier this month. Stute knew the platform that was presented for him with the college coaches being able to evaluate the event for the first time. He then went out and made a handful of catch-and-shoot jumpers, defended different positions and finished with sneaky athleticism at the basket. Because of it, his recruitment has blown up." - Corey Evans 6/29/19
"A 6-foot-7 forward that can play a variety of spots on the floor, Stute has become a knockdown shooter this summer thanks to the consistent work that he has invested in the gym. The need for shot-makers remains a constant. Add in his deceptive athleticism, hard-playing mentality and defensive versatility, and Stute’s value as a national recruitment is appropriate." - Corey Evans7/02/19
We will be speaking with Stute in the immediate future and as always will bring you the latest in keeping you up to date with Vanderbilt Basketball recruiting.
