Briarcrest Christian (Tenn.) athlete Max Carrollwas one of the top targets in Nashville over the weekend. The Commodores like the three-star prospect at their "anchor" position on defense and have compared him to one of the talented young players in the NFL.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound prospect is no stranger to Vanderbilt, but his official visit with the Commodores gave him a better view of the program and school.
Carroll discusses his visit in detail with VandySports.com below.
- On what stood out about his latest visit:
"This time I really got to be around the coaches and players and just get a feel for how Vandy is. How their culture is in Nashville. It was great."
- On is relationships with the coaching staff:
"My relationship with them is real good. We went bowling and I can see the competitiveness in the coaches, so I know how they are with football. Coach (Nick) Lezynski I believe is going to make me right if I go there."
- On his relationship with linebackers coach Nick Lezynski:
"It's great. I think he's a great guy and he seems to think I'm a great guy, so it's a great relationship. We talked briefly about Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, he was a linebacker at Notre Dame and they were saying that's how they see me in their defense. He was a second round pick of the Cleveland Browns."
"They call it an Anchor, so it's kind of a safety/linebacker hybrid. They think I can play man-to-man, play in the box, tackle in space."
- On hanging out with the players during his visit:
"I hung out with CJ Taylor, he was my player host. He was a cool guy. He showed me around Nashville and told me about Vanderbilt and what they had to offer."
- On his overall impressions of Vanderbilt after his official visit:
"I really think the coaches are about to change that program. All they need is the players. They got the coaches. All they need is the players now. I believe Vanderbilt is obviously a tough school academic wise, but I don't believe it will bother me because I'm a smart kid."
"The official really showed me a whole other level of what Vanderbilt actually is. It was great. I had a very fun time in Nashville. We actually went on Broadway. I had never been down there, but it was nice."
