Let's stipulate for a minute that he is an excellent D coach. What is it about his philosophy / scheme / play calling that makes it work.
The reason I ask is a couple of obvious things that we expect good defenses to do, Vandy doesn't necessarily do well (not sure if this was the case at Stanford as well) - that is puts pressure on QB and sacks. Blitz and bring people from all over and free unblocked. And of course TOs.
It seems his defenses are tight in the back with good rotation in the secondary to hide coverages and setting the edge seems very important. It also seems that rotating 4-5 players to disguise coverages and packages is something they do well also.
So thoughts on what makes his Defenses good and stingy when it comes to points allowed.
