Watching the ut game last night I was wondering - can Mason's year 3 be 7-5, 8-4 ?
The defense and any offense lends me to say yes. Of course it will be high stakes bc as the negative crowd rightly points out, he hasn't done it.
Butch seemed to get a free pass at every level the first two years despite having better talent. They were young, they have no depth, they need playmakers, and did I mention they were young.
I heard Rich Rod months ago tell Dan Patrick in coaching it's all about year three to see whether it works or not. I guess my point or question is really Butch from day one set up the expectation that this was a "process" of three or four years (now says 6-7 to compete at the top) and has pretty much gotten away with it. Is the reason Vandy hasn't gotten away with it bc the media and perception of Vandy and the fact that bc they went 9--4 previously, they were supposed to keep going 9-4 despite all the changes?
We have obvious holes, but we also have building blocks that many teams would like - a defense that is young. It travels on the road, it holds up against multiple types of defenses and has a mentality that does not care being left hung out to dry.
Surprisingly after wanting to throw up after the game yesterday - I am excited to see what they can do next week and the final 2. Since day one all I have asked is to have 5 wins so I can drive to Knoxville with a chance to beat those effers and be bowl eligible.
