I feel like the guy really missed an opportunity here. His personality can be really galvanizing. He has a little southern slang and fight to him. He is easy to rally around when his personality is in that positive mode. You could tell he knows things about coaching and strategy. He cares when he's in the moment. He was matter-of-fact about the realities of the NET rankings. But.....
Why didn't he plan ahead for the NET rankings last season? It wasn't that hard to see it but he didn't execute. Then this year he says we scheduled to beat these weaker teams and would blow them away. Well, did we even finish above a shade above .500 against a very weak non-conference or 'preseason' as he liked to call it. Also, the optics of this bloated staff and running good coaches off and playing golf all the time and failing to deliver in recruiting and....calling out fans in the media.
The guy was handed a major opportunity on a silver-platter and didn't take it as seriously as he needed to and his lack of positive fan interaction and other optics did not endear him.
I was told before the season he had a SECCOY clause in his contract and it would take a disastrous season or off-the-court issue to get him gone. I don't even know what our record is but don't think we have reached double-digits wins. That is characterized as a disastrous season by any measure. So we will see hopefully he is gone. If he isn't, the silver lining might be Candice will be on the hot seat. I'm sure she would just be re-assigned to another are of the university.
