Just a thought, but its looking more and more like Franklin is a really good coach. If PSU wins next week, then they are certainly in playoff consideration. This is no small feat considering the Big 10 has several good teams this year and PSU/Franklin has had to overcome all the sanctions placed on the program. Making the playoffs would probably but Franklin in the 10 list of coaches. He may not be a genius x's and o's coach, but he certainly seems to be an excellent motivator, program manager, and great recruiter, which is about half the job in the college world.

Besides some of the bridges Franklin burnt leaving Vandy and stealing recruits - he was certainly a great hire by our program. It's possible Vandy caught lightening in the bottle with him and benefitted from having a great coach at the right time.

All that being said, Mason is taking Vandy to a bowl, something few Vandy coaches have done. Mason detractors can say he was able to use Franklin's foundation to achieve this, but the fact remains that he is still bowl bound.

When comparing the two, I believe that Franklin is the better coach due to his resume. However, Mason is still learning and has shown to be adept at making changes when necessary. I think Franklin learned valuable head coaching lessons while he was the coach in waiting at Maryland. Mason didn't have that opportunity but has learned with hands on experience. Hopefully Mason continue improving and lead Vandy to the success. One additional note, Mason seems like a really genuine guy vs. the manipulative personality that Franklin has become. If win totals were equal, I'd take the good guy every day.

I leave the board with this question, what areas does Mason need to show continued improvement?

TL;DR Franklin might be a really good coach Vandy hired. Mason is a bit more unpolished but has shown tremendous improvement.
